OLIVO BARBIERI

Capri, Italy  b.1954

Born in 1954 in Capri, Italy, Olivo Barbieri was graduated from the University of Bologna and has been developing his career as a photographic artist since 1971. Olivo Barbieri is one of the most influential contemporary photographic artists. He is known for his innovative technique that allows him to capture macro landscape into miniatures, presenting the subtle yet abundant details and layers within. For his debut exhibition at the gallery, we will exhibit 9 selected works and 4 new works from the artist’s well-known 2012 series Alps-Geographies and people. As the artist states, “the subject of ‘Alps-Geographies and people’ presents how the mountain is perceived from the climbers’ point of view-it’s peaks and precipices, the mirages and hallucinations in its geography. In these images, everything is true. The proportion and the forms are real. Even the people and the positions they're in…those, too, are real.”
